Join NUS Press and editors Brandon Liew and Daryl Lim Wei Jie for the launch of “In the Mirror: New and Selected Poems of Wong Phui Nam”, a landmark collection of the work of one of the foundational poets of Malaysian literature in English. The editors worked with Wong to prepare his latest works for publication, combining these with his earlier work and some of his key essays and literary criticism. An afterword by Wong's contemporary Edwin Thumboo completes a volume that will be treasured for its historical context-making, but more importantly for the literary rewards of Wong's poetry.
The editors will be joined by guest-of-honour Prof Wang Gungwu, historian and author of some 20 books, and readers Aaron Lee, Aaron Maniam, Tse Hao Guang, Catalina Rembuyan and Andrew Devadason. A choral recording of a work inspired by Wong Phui Nam's poetry will also be played.
This book launch is part of Singapore Writers Festival 2025 and is co-presented with the National Library Board.
